Indian-English Fusion, The Grand Hotel, Birmingham
An Indian-English Fusion Wedding
at the Grand Hotel
Birmingham
There are some weddings where you can almost feel the energy through the photographs — and this beautiful Indian-English fusion wedding at the Birmingham Grand Hotel was certainly one of them.
Bringing together the elegance of an English wedding with the colour, music and traditions of Indian culture, the day was filled with incredible outfits, unforgettable moments, Indian drums, a tuk-tuk arrival, a little Birmingham city-centre adventure and plenty of dancing.
It was a wedding full of personality, and every part of the day told a story.
A Wedding Full of Colour, Culture and Celebration
From the very beginning, the atmosphere was a wonderful mix of cultures and traditions. The couple created a celebration that felt personal to them, bringing together both sides of their family and the things they loved while making space for both their Indian and English backgrounds.
The Birmingham Grand Hotel provided a beautiful backdrop, with its grand interiors creating an elegant setting for the celebrations.
But this wasn't a wedding that stayed inside the hotel.
One of the things I loved most about photographing this day was taking the couple out into Birmingham city centre for relaxed, urban portraits.
Birmingham City Centre Wedding Photography
Stepping outside the hotel gave us a completely different setting for the photographs.
The streets of Birmingham became part of the wedding story, with the city's architecture, busy streets and urban atmosphere providing a striking contrast to the couple's traditional Indian wedding attire.
The colours and intricate details of their outfits really stood out against the city surroundings, creating portraits that felt modern, relaxed and editorial.
Rather than spending the entire portrait session standing in one location, we walked through the city, capturing natural moments as we went. There were plenty of opportunities for photographs that felt less posed and more like the couple simply enjoying being together on their wedding day.
For me, this is what makes city-centre wedding photography so much fun. You never quite know what you'll find around the next corner.
The combination of Birmingham's urban backdrop and the couple's traditional clothing created something completely unique to their wedding.
Arriving in Style — With a Tuk Tuk
Back at the hotel, one of the most memorable details of the day was the tuk-tuk arrival.
It was such a fun way to bring another Indian element into the celebrations, and it made for some fantastic photographs.
Against the grand surroundings of the Birmingham Grand Hotel, the tuk-tuk added a completely different character to the day — colourful, unexpected and full of personality.
It's details like this that make a wedding memorable. They're the little things that couples and their families will remember for years, and they're exactly the sort of moments I love documenting.
The Sound of Indian Drums
Then came the drums.
As the Indian drummers began playing, the atmosphere changed instantly. Guests gathered, danced and celebrated as the music filled the space.
The energy was incredible.
From a photography perspective, moments like these are fantastic because there is movement and emotion everywhere — hands in the air, huge smiles, guests dancing and traditional outfits moving with the rhythm.
Rather than simply photographing the musicians, I wanted to capture the atmosphere around them: the excitement, the movement and the reactions of everyone celebrating together.
